Workshop On - An Introductory Course on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)
August 19th, 20th & 21st, 2011
@ IBS Hyderabad, India
Overview of the Program
Academicians progress through research. Research is very important for any area within the management discipline. For subjects like Marketing and Human Resource Management, research helps to create the right linkages between theory and practice. However, the first hurdle an academician faces in research is that of finding the right methodology. The researcher may not be well acquainted with the proper application and limitations of a research method even if he/she is aware of the technique.
Quantitative research methods dominated the domain of research methods till recently. Of late, however, there has also been a considerable amount of interest in qualitative methods in Marketing and HR research. This is because most often, the researcher is dealing with human behavior which is too complex to be modeled mathematically. This workshop intends to enable the academician with both types of techniques used in research. It will first educate the researcher on the differences between the assumptions held by qualitative and quantitative orientations to research.
Then it will educate the researcher on the methods associated with qualitative and quantitative research. The advantages for the participants will be two-fold. Control over the techniques will help them understand the benefits and shortcomings of a particular methodology. It will also enable them realize how to fit a method properly into data and get rid of shortcomings, if any arise.
At the end of the workshop, the participants would will definitely be more equipped with the required research tools. All topics will have theory/demo sessions.
